Acres Homes, with its rich and diverse history, has activated the community to bring healthy food home.

Did you know that Aces Homes, a historic neighborhood in northwest Houston, is part of the City of Houston Complete Communities initiative? It is also considered a food desert with challenges in high chronic disease rates. Acres Homes, with its rich and diverse history, has activated the community to bring healthy food home. The Acres Homes Farmers Market held its first event on June 29, 2019. The community hosts the Farmers Market on the third Saturday of each month, located on the grounds of The Christian Outreach Center at 4333 W. Little York Road from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. On September 21, 2019, Mayor Sylvester Turner met the vendors, organizers, and community at large in the spirit of good health.

The American Heart Association, along with other government and non-profit organizations, helped to bring the residents of the community together and identify their health goals, which included a Farmers Market and new grocery store to improve access to healthier foods for its residents.
