Our Expertise

The underlying mechanisms that explain within and between group differences in infectious and chronic diseases are largely unknown. Basic biomedical science provides a transformative platform to discover novel pathological and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying unfair, unjust, and unnecessary social inequities that systematically confer disproportional incidence, prevalence, mortality, and/or burden of disease in specific populations.

From animal to human models, the HEALTH Research Institute has expertise in (1) novel molecular mechanisms focused on the pathogenesis of infectious and chronic diseases, and (2) the neurobiology of stress and immunology. This research is conducted with the intentionality of rapidly disseminating novel research findings back into the communities the science was designed to impact.
