Beyond her research endeavors, Dr. Merchant is deeply committed to institutional service and fostering diversity and inclusion within academia. She has actively contributed to numerous committees and initiatives at the University of Houston, including chairing various committees and serving as a member of the Faculty Senate and Faculty Governance Committee. Dr. Fatima Merchant's multifaceted expertise, coupled with her passion for advancing scientific knowledge and promoting academic excellence, makes her a highly respected figure in the field of biomedical engineering and computational health informatics.


For every daughter, mother, and sister of a breast cancer survivor, the trauma and fear of being diagnosed with cancer is palpable.

Introducing our New National Research Center, a giant leap forward in Helping Everyone Achieve a LifeTime of Health! It will focus on eradicating health disparities at the University of Houston. The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) awarded $11.8 million to Dr. EzemenariObasi to create the center.
