Smoking Cessation Study Open for Recruitment
Dr. Virmarie Correa-Fernández, Director of the Latino and Behavioral Health Research Team and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological, Health, & Learning Sciences, aims to improve evidence-based practices to reduce behavioral health disparities among Latinx populations. She is conducting a pilot study that entails the testing of a culturally-relevant smoking cessation intervention for Latinx who smoke and experience low mood. The intervention, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is delivered by phone and participants receive free nicotine patches. This study, funded by the American Cancer Society, will evaluate the feasibility of recruitment, retention, and treatment acceptability, and will generate preliminary data on treatment outcomes.
